Organizing 2012

I'm not one to usually get too pumped up and make a ton of resolutions for the new year, but I'm feeling incredibly excited about 2012. There should be some important life changes this year (and I'll be 25 later in the year...holy cow!) and I can't wait! I've set some goals for myself that I think are reasonable and reachable but will also hopefully encourage me to push and stretch myself. One of them is to be BOLD. Seems kind of silly, however, I've been very shy for the majority of my life and advertising and pr are rather outgoing fields of work. I'm going to try not to be the quiet one at the office anymore and to reach out, ask questions, and engage with different people more.

The new year has also encouraged my obsession with notebooks and journals. I swear cute stationery and planners get me every time. Below are three that I'm excited to start using. The small Q&A one is an adorable book with a question for each date and five sections on the page so that you can see how your answers change over the years. The questions range from cute and random to deep and introspective. The big spiral one is a journal that I'm hoping to keep up with, and especially to use on my trip in May. Finally, the one that says 2012 on the front is my planner for the year. Frankie Magazine has started putting out the most adorable planners every year, and they choose fantastic illustrators to design the pages inside. I was bummed when I missed it last year, but this year I received it as a gift from my boyfriend's sister.

By far my favorite magazine!

Quiche

I love quiche. Seriously. I never ate it until I went on a school trip to France in high school and fell in love. Needless to say, after you try a food in its birthplace it's never quite as delicious anywhere else. Until now! This recipe is so amazing, we're planning on making it a regular around our house.

You'll need:

-6 large eggs, beaten
-1 1/2 cups heavy cream
-2 cups chopped spinach
-1 1/2 cups shredded swiss cheese
-1 cup turkey bacon
-9 inch pie crust

Combine eggs and cream in a food processor. Layer spinach, bacon and cheese on the pie crust and cover with the egg mixture. Bake for 35-45 minutes.

I'm baaaaack!

Holiday tchotchkes, is everyone's mom into these? Will we be into these someday? They kind of make me happy, but Christmas decorations also make me giggle a little.

Some of the 12(+) beers of Christmas.

The beautiful tree by Danny's house, every year I marvel at it. This year I pestered Danny to come with me and take some photos of it. Yay!

I also made him take photos with me, I don't think we take photos together enough and it's fun to look back and see changes over time. My sister also snapped a picture of us napping about a half hour after this. Awww :)

Orchard

Last Saturday Lisa and I went to Pine Tree Apple Orchard near White Bear Lake. Not only is it an apple orchard, it also has a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay rides and a strawberry patch in the summer. It was a perfect autumn day, so we wandered around for hours. Lisa found a pumpkin that she fell in love with, but it was too big and heavy to be carried the half mile back to the car. They have apple cinnamon donuts there that are extremely popular, they smelled divine, but we opted for caramel apples instead. Yum!

Maps

I've been really into maps lately. I don't know if it's because I really want to do some traveling, or simply because they are interesting and beautiful. These are just a few of my recent favorites. Where do you want to travel?

(This is so cool! Scratch off where you've been to reveal a large, full color map.)

What I Wore

I love buttons. Ever since I was a kid I've collected cool buttons, and I prefer my clothes to have as many buttons, pockets or zippers as possible. So when I found this shirt a couple weeks ago I knew it was for me. I actually just noticed that my blazer also has some rather loud buttons. Overkill? Maybe, but I don't care!

I think everyone has a "thing" with their wardrobe, whether it's a color, style or brand. What's your thing?
